Back in 2003, I taught myself web design. But design wasn't my only passion. Once I recognized I could combine design with books, I began working as a freelance book designer and have worked for clients such as The Sun, CoSchedule, Self Publish -N- 30 Days, and The Frugal Feminista. Typesetting and producing ebooks is an absolute joy for me. My current interest is learning about accessibility and striving to implement the things I learn into the books I produce because I believe people shouldn't have to wait years to read the books they want to read.
My journey in the self-publishing industry began in 2010, when I wanted to self-publish books of my own. I initially paid a large sum of money to a company that gave me an embarrassing book design, was picked up by a small publisher only to have the company fold before my debut, and decided to try my hand at starting my own small press. I spent three years working closely alongside a small group of authors and learned the ins and outs of publishing, producing, designing, editing, and marketing. I no longer work as a publisher, but can give some advice on the inner workings of what a self-published author needs to do to set themselves up for focus.
